Meet Ruth Ann
Ruth Ann discovered line dancing in 2016 as a brand-new student — just like many of her dancers today. What began as trying something new quickly grew into a passion for the music, movement, friendships, and fun that line dancing brings.
Today, Ruth Ann focuses primarily on Absolute Beginner and Beginner dancers, creating a welcoming and encouraging environment where new dancers can learn comfortably, build confidence, and simply enjoy themselves. Her classes emphasize fun, patience, and making line dancing accessible to everyone — even those who never imagined themselves dancing before.
Ruth Ann especially enjoys helping newer dancers realize that line dancing is not about perfection — it’s about staying active, meeting wonderful people, laughing a little, and enjoying the experience together.
Before The Villages
After earning her PhD in Political Science from the University of South Carolina at age 28, Ruth Ann spent 26 years at Appalachian State University teaching State and Local Government, Public Personnel Administration, and Political Science. During her academic career, she served as a Full Professor and later spent four years as Chair of the Political Science Department.
Today, Ruth Ann and her husband John enjoy golf, travel, cruising, and life in The Villages. Their shared love of travel and line dancing inspired Ruth Ann’s Line Dance Cruises, which first sailed in 2023, continued in 2026, and are planned again for 2028.
